Cooper Brownlee has put together a kick-ass mini gallery from this years Red Bull Dirt Pipe. These are the shots that didn’t make the final issue, so I’d suggest keeping your eyes peeled for the ones that do as these are the nuts! There’s also some good stuff on YouTube from the 2008 event. Checkit. Is it just me, or could Red Bull have thought of a better name than Dirt Pipe!? /A
Its the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup this weekend. Check out BMX Copenhagen for updates of big men with big balls jumping over big gaps on small bikes. Friggin awesome! (pic nabbed from here) /A
If you’re kicking your heals for something to do this weekend, get down to Pall Mall / Waterloo Place for the start of this years Gumball Rally. Jamie Bestwick and Tony Hawk will be doing vert ramp sessions, plus there are a whole bunch of shit hot cars, rap stars, and, errr, David Hasselhoff! Well, Bestwick will be shredding if nothing else! /A
Super rad pictures from Defgrip. Wish someone had taken pics of my glory days! /R
Well looky what we have here. I can’t wait to get this built up, just need to source a few final parts. Click through to see the bicycle bounty within. /A
The Tunnel Jam video seems to be going the rounds today. I had a little snoop around the interweb and found this rather excellent picture set over at Defgrip. /A
The day started out with the slowest ever, energy conserving, rain soaked ride to the basketball courts. As the Red Bull girls were handing out free cans to everyone I discovered I’d managed to pick up a puncture along the way. Luck was on my side as Brick Lane Bikes fisted me five and a bit quid for their last 20″ tube. Panic over. There were some nice bikes kicking around, Scott’s full sus’ brooklyn BMX looked good as did a few Raleigh burners and an impecably preserved 80′s GT Performer. As there were only 40 entrants (poor form if you didn’t show up, you missed out!) the decision was made not to split the field at Elephant & Castle in favour of a quick breather. After a bit of hanging around 40 guys and girls headed for Bethnal Green Road and we bombed off. Even though there was no pressure to grab a pass at E&C, the pace was still quick and mashing it through London Bridge was good fun. Arriving at E&C, some opted for water and Lucozade, others made for the bar and got a swift round in. After pints were downed and a quick breather, it was down to business and time to find out if putting my power straps on made any difference what so ever. After the off, a couple of riders (including myself) took the law abiding long way round the roundabout onto Newington Buts only to see the rest of the pack getting a good head start the short way round. After busting my ass to get to the leading pack I looked up only to see Tom way down the road on his old skool frame, which I later found out was running a 44/11!!! As we turned left onto Brixton Road, there was nothing but head winds which didn’t let up. This didn’t stop guys making their moves. Taliban Tom (brother of Super Ted) got in amongst it, Phil went round the outside as I felt like puking my guts up! 44/11 Tom was long gone and the other Tom hooked an early right with some local knowledge. I made for the pavement early, narrowly avoiding a wedding as the rest of the pack went for it the wrong way up Stockwell Park Walk. Bikes were thrown over the wall as we all piled to the centre of the park for the finish. Tom bagged it, with Phil taking second. I was pretty stoked with my top ten finish.
Michael over at Build has done a nice post today centred around this video and a trip down BMX memory lane. The Haro boys were one of the first ever BMX trick teams and inspired generations…get some education. /A
A nice bank holiday trip to Bristol and a days riding with Roly. Saturday was spent sampling the local ale and stocking up on new bits and bobs from Crucial. Sundays riding took in the skatepark at Filton and then the mad concrete banks at St. George’s park. It was super fun pumping around the bowl sections, concrete doubles and berms. Although we both decided that our BMX’s had been neglected and “the fear” had somewhat taken hold! Note to self: Ride BMX more.
