Super stoked on the delivery of a Jam Factory bag of goodies, including the rather fine Death Before Derailleur T-Shirt. There is a third run of shirts about to be released so if you want one, get over to the Jam Factory Store sharpish! Nice work Gav. /A
Big thanks to Mon for my hand-sewn Champ Tee! Mon is the creative brains behind a wicked little magazine called Ala Champfest currently on sale in 14BikeCo. Theses tees aren’t available to buy yet and only for mates so I’m extra stoked she’s made me one. Check out the Champ blog here and keep your eyes peeled for Issue 2 which is very close to completion. /R
These look absolutely banging! I’ve always been a big fan of Vans for riding; The Gabe Morford ones released last year were amazing, but this new collaboration between DVS and Cadence would definitely tempt me to get into a different pair of waffle sole.
I’ve nicked all this info and the pics from The Foot Down – “They come in a low and a mid top and are made of waxed canvas which makes them super water resistant, the tongue on the mid is attached to the upper so that should stop even the most pesky of raindrops. Again they have really hard soles and a nice slim silhouette perfect for riding, they are also very light weight. Word is that these are going to retail for about 50-odd quid which is just crazy but awesome.”
Nice. /R
Yesterday was not a good day. Firstly, the day before, I snapped my saddle clean off the rails while trying to move my wedged seatpost. Not good. Went to see Ted and he said I might have to lose the seastpost in order to get it out. Bye bye Thompson… Then on my way to 14 to try pick up a saddle, my chain snapped. Brilliant. Soon, both these problems were sorted out thanks to Jacob. New hollow pin chain (stronger apparantly) and old bucket seat fitted I set off to meet the boys from MixtMeat. I got there, had a beer, jumped on the bike and promptly threaded my lock ring. Session over before it had even started. But massive thanks to Dunny and Keith (or is that Ringer?) for sorting me out with a new one and fitting it in their front room. I’d have been walking home otherwise. The tees you see here will soon be available to order from The Butchers Shop. I think they look banging! /R
No Gear is the first in a serie of shirt collaborations between Pristine Fixed Gear and befriended artists. The first shirt is based on the Tour De France ‘75, a classic battle between Bernard Thévenet and Eddy Merckx. Check out the designers behind the shirt. Nicely done. /A
It’s dropped a few degrees here in London taaaaan. Time for some base layers. I can’t quite afford Howies merino at the moment, so I’m going to give Uniqlo’s Heat Tech a go. I’m sure it won’t be quite as good, but damn it’s cheep. On this mornings first outing, it definitely made a difference. My bag was heavier than usual but I wasn’t dripping in sweat. Looking good for the Japanese so far. /A
Just read a review of the new folding helmet by Dahon over at the Guardian Bike Blog. 90 sheets seems like a load of cash for something that may not fit properly, but the idea is certainly in the right place. /A
The top one is SO nice. I’ll be keeping an eye on (my hometown) Leeds Fixed Gear for more details. /R
Yorgo Tloupas of Intersection magazine, has designed one of the Nike Tiempo shoes. I like the simplicity. This is what he has to say…”I decided to do a completely black shoe: Which, when lit by car headlights or the flash of a camera, becomes something completely different: Basically the idea is to have 3M reflective material – in black – all over the shoe, apart from the swoosh, laces, and sole. So during the day the shoe is sober and black, and at night it shines brightly, and adds to your visibility when riding.” Nice. /R
